Zac Stacy left Vanderbilt as the university’s most heralded running back of all time. The NFL took notice.

Not only another blessing in disguise... But another opportunity.... #salute

That means that Stacy will join college football’s elite seniors (and eligible juniors) in Indianapolis for the 2013 NFL Draft Scouting Combine. He’ll have the opportunity to showcase his talents for professional scouts and raise his stock for April’s draft.

Stacy is the first Commodore to announce his invite. Cornerback Trey Wilson and quarterback Jordan Rodgers could also receive invitations as the February event draws closer. An official list of players is expected to be released by the NFL in early February.

The honor is a big one for Vanderbilt’s all-time leader rusher. Stacy currently grades out as a late-round pick, but a big performance at the Combine could push him into the first two days of the Draft. He’ll have to answer questions about his speed and durability to leave a lasting impact on scouts, but his strength and lateral quickness should boost his stock in the long run.

Stacy, despite being an All-SEC tailback, left Vanderbilt as a nationally underrated player. With a big performance in Indianapolis, he could turn himself into a standout leading into April’s draft.
